I have just finished the first beta release of the Neuhub Red Dash theme and it is read for beta testing for anyone who is interested.

This version is an early beta release of a "minimum viable product" meaning it is good enough to start with, but not close to what I eventually want to make. I plan on making a lot more changes, eventually updating every single view/page. So expect a lot more changes.

I need to run a hub for taking part in testing, right?

It is currently installed on

https://neuhub.org so you can test it by visiting those websites.

If you run your own hub, you would be able to beta test from a hub operator's perspective.

Neuhub Progress Report: Example Addon, Module, and Widget

I just wanted to give a quick progress report.

The repository has been restructured and currently contains only one theme: Neuhub Red Dash. The old files have been deleted from the repository (but are still recorded in the history). I am still rewriting portions of it, so it's not ready for production yet. But it will be ready soon.

We have also added some working code examples to the repository. One addon, one module, and one widget. If you upload them to the indicated folders, they should work. Some have dependencies, such as template (tpl) files, but looking at the code, you should see what files are referenced. I'll polish them up later, but they work. But for developers, they should work as a good starting point.

Now that the example code has been created, it will be easier to create the necessary modules and widgets needed for Neuhub.

Getting Close our First "Official" Release

Things have been crazy around here lately and are behind schedule, so I wanted to give an update. We are pretty close to an official beta release.

The first "official" theme I will be releasing will be called Neuhub Red Dash, because it is based on the Redbasic theme and Bootstrap's SB Admin theme (a dashboard-style theme). The new theme will be a two-column theme meant for "content & community" websites, very similar to the Purplebasic theme currently being used on Neuhub.org and CompleteHostingGuide.com.

Neuhub Red Dash will replace Purplebasic.

Neuhub Red Dash looks similar to Purplebasic, but many of the elements of the theme are being rewritten as widgets.

The Git repository will be totally restructured, so expect a lot of files to be deleted, renamed, or moved. The current themes in the repository, such as Purplebasic and Redplus will be deleted. They served their purposes for experimentation and testing. What I learned from them (and much of the successful code) will go into Neuhub Red Dash. The Redbasic Starter Kit will probably be saved, but I don't plan on making (m)any changes to it at this time. If you want a copy of the old code, you are welcome to download it before it gets deleted.

I just wanted to make a quick post to let you know that I will resume working on the Neuhub themes and plugins in August 2022 (in about a week or so), and hopefully will have the first release shortly after that.

Unfortunately, this month has been a busy one, and I get to do fun things like migrate servers and email accounts before a looming deadline. Fun, fun, fun. But I will be back to working on Neuhub very soon. :)

Current Project Status

The current status of the project is that the theme works for remotely authenticated users, but for logged-in users, there are a number of bugs related to notifications that I must iron out before releasing it. The version on Github is not the latest version, but it is similar to the version I am working on now.

Disclaimer

It should be noted that for the first version, I am decidedly taking the "wrong way to do it, but it works" approach. I'm still learning how Hubzilla works, and I want to get a working proof of concept out there as fast as possible. Once I better understand how Hubzilla works, I will implement things "the right way™." :)
